Wild Mushrooms

North Mill Creek
Salem, OR

I'm uncertain what type of mushrooms these are or whether they are edible or not. They are a beautiful luminescent gold and I found them near a creek bed in town. I scoured the internet and the closest image and description I found was a Golden Chanterelle. Anyone have any ideas?

I only eat mushrooms from the supermarket for this reason. I'm told, by a wild mushroom afficianado, that the variety sold in stores was chosen because it is bland. I do love taking mushroom photos in the forest.

The light shining through the mushroom top is just beautiful. I love the way the details of the mushroom are highlighted.

This is not a Chanterelle. Chanterelles are orange like this one, but the gills run down and connect with the stem, and they don't have the little collar on the stem that this one has. Chanterelles are usually hiding down in the duff with just the tops poking through. They are very distinctive and hard to confuse with other mushrooms once you have seen a few. This time a year they are in better grocery stores so have a look at them there.
