This location, well, 6 feet behind the point I took this picture, is the only place in the United States, where a river empties into a creek...so says Ripley's Believe It or Not.

Natural Light and Curves

Aalto's Library
Mount Angel Abbey
One Abbey Rd
St Benedict, OR 97373
Designed by Finnish architect, Alvar Aalto, the three-story library, completed in 1970, presents a series of curves, light colored wood against black and white counters and natural lighting. Because of it's 'off the beaten path' location and unassuming, ordinary exterior, it is one of Oregon's architectural best kept secrets.

Alan on Pipes

2nd Annual Scottish Heritage Month Celebration
Salem Public Library
585 Liberty St SE
Salem, OR

Didn't plan for this week's photo theme to be so culturally tilted (Mon - Native American, Thu - Scottish), it's just how a few of Salem's events coordinated with my schedule. I just read in the newspaper that a celebration commemorating the Vietnamese New Year is scheduled for Saturday. I think I'll stop by...I haven't been to Asia this week yet.

Originally opened to the public in 1926, the theater was nearly leveled in 1980 to make way for a parking lot. Thanks to the 'Save the Elsinore Committee', the site was preserved, renovated and reopened in 2004. Tonight I watched the classic 1927 silent movie, "Metropolis" accompanied by live Wurlitzer organ music.
